Snow Shoeing/XC Skiing/Snowmobiling
Snow shoeing has returned to popularity. It is relatively easy to learn and doesn’t involve costly equipment. In fact, if you don’t have your own snow shoes, you may rent them in Elkhart Lake and at a nearby outfitter.
Snow shoeing opportunities are offered at Elkhart Lake’s Quit Qui Oc Golf Club when conditions are prime. Rental equipment is available Thursday through Saturday 9 am to 4 pm or by appointment. Equipment rental fees for adults: 2 hours for $10, All Day for $18 or $26/weekend. For a $6 rental fee, children may ski for 2 hours. Trail fees (included with rental) are: $5 per day, $20 per individual for the season and $25/household for the season. The trail fee applies to those using the trail with their own equipment. Please call 920-876-2833 for reservations.
Ecology Outfitters in Sheboygan (20-minute drive away) rents snow shoes and cross-country skis. Call 920-452-9555 to reserve your equipment. Pick up your equipment and head to a number of trails in the area. Snow shoeing is permitted on the Ice Age Trail. Parking lots for the LaBudde Creek segment are located about 2 miles from downtown Elkhart Lake. Just 6 miles away in Greenbush, the Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest trail system is excellent and offers trails from .7 miles to 4 miles long. Difficulty ranges from easy to most difficult. Both snowshoeing and XC skiing are permitted.
Snowmobile trails are abundant in Sheboygan County and the Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest. For trails and other information about openings, closings, and conditions, visit www.nkmtrail.com or call 920-892-7455. No ATVs are permitted on the trails.
